Couple of days ago I was talking to a friend of mine at office. we have known each other for almost eight years now and we got talking and you know ended up discussing how we had gotten introduced by a common friend and how little that people despite eight years, got to know about me, how I was so aloof and never mingled unless people were of similar frequency and forth.

Though there was a serious topic in discussion all I could think was,

Karthik – Dependency Injected – Absract- loosely coupled – Role access – Security – singleton – manifest – known types – strong names.

I find this very weird. If I were to be a part of an application and an architect identified the application to behave the way it has been stated, he would be happy to have such a decoupled and easily replaceable component. I am an architect and I would be happy of such a component.

This is probably one of the key requirements of any plug and play system. Which deems the presence of which not a mandate for the functioning of the overall system itself.

When we think of object orientation in the programming paradigm, it is a concept that has evolved from what is around us. How this world behave and that behavior modeled into the famous OOPs. Nowadays I see people finding it difficult to trace the concepts back to the root (which is the world around us). For something that has evolved from the world as we see, if it is good for the application, then shouldn’t it be good for the world or your instance of the world too…

So how does this world look like when you take it apart and dis-assemble the conversations and map to the OOP world…

Abstraction: idea not associated with anything concrete

Inheritance: attributes acquired

Polymorphism: existence of two or more forms

On a different not, What does Proactive mean? What it is something you will never know, neither will your boss know. Still it remains what it is and surfaces every 6 months, whatever you do it will still be there, it is so abstract that nobody can define what it means. This word is the mother of all abstractions…

If only the world was a plug and play it would have been a lot easier… But as my friend had stated earlier, the level of abstraction that is being enjoyed is not the same Every body abstracts, every body has access roles defined. We have our own layers of people and relationships around. We expose different views of ourselves to this world, We have our own business logics that drive us, we are all hardwired to a specific program. It only makes sense that we keep the program maintainable and the basic requirement would be loose-coupling. The pattern is unquestionable, but can we fathom what the developer of this program intended to do with these little modules?

That is the day when girls looked at you with so much interest that till date you haven’t experienced that again.  The day they check you out but sadly I guess you won’t remember a thing from that day. People cry, laugh and most of the earthly beings of significance are happy. That day my dear is the day you were born, the day you entered the realm of earth.

The most  important question of your life was, were those people sitting/standing/flying up there are happy.  The ones in the exosphere and beyond. The planets.

The uninitiated may ask, WHY. Why on earth should I care about the nine planets eight planets and a dwarf planet. That my dear is because the moment you were born, he who has no name has already scripted the part that you are going to play in this world. How long you will live, how much money, how many wives and all that. Yeah, I know had you known about this before, you would find him and bribe him into writing a good part. Chairman and Commissioner of the DLF IPL Mr.Malit Lodi announces that in the year 2020 30 more teams would be added to the already existing 140 teams in the IPL.  That is what we will be focusing on the Paisa Stops There today with me Nirmala SiriyaSaamy of DDTV.  Today we have with us the Chairman and High Commissioner of IPL Mr.Lodi.

NS: Mr.Lodi,  30 more teams would make it 170 teams in the league. That is a lot more than what you might have envisioned in 2008.

Mr.Lodi: IPL is growing by the day and there were skeptics who ruled this league out. Questioned on its ability to help players, but now after 12 years it is very clear about the direction we are taking and the commitment we have shown for this game.

NS: Are you hinting about the rumours about IPL doing what Kerry Packer series was not able to do. Take over control of the crickets governing body.

ML: These rumours and allegations about IPL taking over ICC is baseless. We do not have any affiliation with the ICC and neither are we planning to. There was a conflict with the ICC not providing sufficient window for IPL and we opted out of it. ICC is just an umbrella that doesn’t help in the development of cricket. It is a puppet in the hands of PCB and ACGC (Afghanistan Cricket Governance Council)

NS: But a 4 month staggered window was proposed which was rejected by IPL.

ML: Twenty 20 is a demanding format of the game. This game needs focus,and experts agreed with it.  The T20 Council was setup under the expert guidance of Mandira Bedi  and the findings of that commission is pretty clear, staggering the league reduces player fitness and to an extent the operating financial margins.

NS: But Rahul Dravid seems to be worried about the commission itself and wants the whole panel replaced. He find the panel incompetent

ML: The panel comprises of experts who have proved themselves, we have Sam(Sameer Kochhar), Gaurav, Sidhu and Arun Lal. They are all well known cricket critics and to top it all we have Mandira who revolutionized cricket. How can one person’s view on the panel be considered.  Rahul Dravid needs to consider what he is talking.

NS: Coming back to the issue in hand, we have 170 teams, will it still be following the old format of Zone based cricket, or more like Ranji Trophy like format.

ML: Well let us not talk about rebel leagues and formats as in Ranji Trophy. We are planning to have a state wise round and the top 2 teams from each state will play at the zone level. And the top 3 teams from each zone will play in the final IPL-acme-league

NS: Will this be introduced in the year 2020?

ML: We are hoping to get all the decisions and infrastructure ready. You know we still need to check all the grounds, construction has just started in say Lalgudi for example.

NS: Laloogudi? Is the team sponsored by Mr.Laloo ji?

ML: smiles

NS: Coming to a more serious issue, IPL has banned all international players.

ML: No we didn’t ban international players, we have just said that if you want to play in the IPL, then you must be an Indian or should hold a work permit.

NS: But no other leagues has this clause. Take the football leagues, you see people from all over the world and we all know they definitely are not residents of the country.

ML: See let us not compare the football leagues and IPL. They hardly have around 50 teams and each runs its own independent stream. So at a time we are talking around 10 teams in a league. Look at IPL, it is huge and it pays huge money. When we have something of this scale, then we need to put stringent laws. It helps us avoid illegal immigrant players.

NS: And no change in the sponsors rule.

ML: No. We are still sticking to a maximum of 4 international sponsors. But we are reducing the number of sponsors allowed on the helmet

NS: And who will be the official broadcaster, given Set MAX contract expires this year.

ML: The board has unanimously decided to give the broadcasting rights to SUN-VILAYATTU channel. It will be broadcasting in Tamil, Hindi and English.

NS: Will you at any time offer some kind of a truce to BCCI.

ML: There is nothing to offer more. We have already told BCCI, recognize and come join us. We have nothing to lose. We are indifferent to their stand on IPL

An unexpected decision from the multi billion dollar IPL machine was disclosed today by the Commissioner’s  Office  in Jaipur. The number of sponsors on the helmet of the batsman will be reduced to 7 from the current number 24.  Also the side ad burns will be removed from the helmet. (Comparison in the inset picture)

The presence of too many sponsors in the helmet is distracting the bowler and the Bowlers Cricket Group(BCG) that has been fighting for the Bowlers right to be in the game had raised this issue with the Chairman and Commissioner Mr.Lodi.

The commission headed by the multi Conglomerate Vijaya Optical House in its findings recently concluded in favor of the BCG. This could be a problem given the advertisements and sponsors links pay around 90% of the net revenue generated by the league.

Mr.Lodi was dismissive of these problems and confirmed that, only the real estate or the area covered is going to be reduced but nonetheless, the regions available for advertisement on the helmet would be digitized.

Small LCD panels will be displaying variable advertisements and the duration for 10seconds on the helmet is speculated to cost around 15 million dollars.

A few minutes and the powerpoint presentation was all over.  Then I was thinking, how on earth did I get good at this?

Well I guess this software  industry is kind of tuned to this. A fresh out of the college student is trained in whatever technology but not in MS-Office(it is taboo.) MS-Office is not for people who code. Well yeah proved you – IEEE pdf reading, C++ working – wrong didn’t they.There is a running joke at office

“why on earth are the training ppl in Java or Mainframes? They should train people in MS-Office”

But wouldn’t that be a give away? Don’t you think that it would be unfair, as Java/.NET doesn’t decide your pay? It is MS-Office and the mastery of it that decides it and you don’t want to teach them this cash cow, but rather expect them to learn this technology.  First to meet the people in the software industry

The person to whom Mr.Lead sucks up to flaunting his accent.  Mr.Manager is the knowitall of you yess yaaa and has fun digging Mr.Lead. Everybody in the team is a revenue generating tool. He always want the estimates reduced 20% and wants people to work on the weekends.  Typical dialogues,

Seen it all done it all. Microsoft calls him to get user experience details for their newer versions of office. Roams around the office with a blackberry and a blue tooth.

For him, managers are a tool to get more projects. He has forgotten how to use Excel and Word but is very powerful with powerpoint (Can create animations) but uses them mostly in a readonly mode. He spends his whole day working on Outlook sending and receiving emails.

After the experiment, I overheard a couple of Software engineers talk in the next cubicle.

Software Engineer 1: What is the primary work our company does ?

Software Engineer 2: Take care of lawns and buildins?

SE1: No, seriously.

SE2: Develop software, maintain software and may be documents too.

SE1: How do we develop/maintain software?

SE2: Eeeww… Of course we code. That is what it is.

SE1: So the primary work of our company is CODING.

SE2: aah, something dawned?

SE1: We Software engineers do all the code. We create and maintain softwares don’t we?

SE2: Yeah so what?

SE1: and our managers work on excels and powerpoints and what nots, so they don’t actually do the primary work of our company. So why do they get paid so much but I WHO DOES THE PRIMARY WORK gets a measly salary?

by the way the title Butter Kappu translates as Vennai Kaapu in tamil.

Vennai Kaapu is a very famous alangaram for Aanjaneyar, especially in Tamil Nadu.

A vennai kaapu sathina aanjaneyar is the second* most beautiful alangaram. The aanjaneyar idol is completely covered with aavin butter and then the priest decorates The God very beautifully.

Now, Mr. Symonds when on the field sports a very very classy cream around his lips (sunscreen? just around the lips!!!).This cream is very white. Whenever I see him in this great adornment, it always reminds me of Vennai Kaapu sathina aanjaneyar.

Now you decide for yourself, didn’t harbhajan do a grave mistake by calling him a monkey. After all he is the descendant of the monkey God personified and alangaram pannified and playing cricket.

Hence forth Harbhajan should be careful and may not address Mr.Symonds as Monkey,he is of a divine lineage.

dashfying a word:

Making a continuous tense

ex:
you muduchufying (Eng: you finishing)
you paathufying (Eng: you seeing (rather watching))

the dashfied word:

A past tense verb,

ex:
you muduchufied (Eng: you finished|Tam: nee muduchuta)
you paathufied (Eng: you saw|Tam: nee paatha)
